Pop-Out Your Package! | Abercrombie + Hollister Fellas' Spring-Summer 2013 Underwear – Part I: The Boxer Briefs Edition...
That’s right fellas. Pop-Out Your Package! guy talk is back on THE HOTTEST BLOG! It’s that popular, seasonal discourse where we break out the 411 on how to look our best when pants drop hot...
In this part 1, we’ll be tackling boxer briefs. Long gone are the days when boxer shorts ruled as the norm in mens undies; and also when trunks and briefs/boxer briefs were second to boxers and only came in white and shades of gray. That’s been basically over for like three years now (although the trend was picking up in the late-2000s). Why? Times have changed. Style-conscious attitude in men has been exploding – from New York, to London, to Shanghai, guys up-to-date in the latest in mens style are even roaming about with trending mens bags – and form-fitting (and enhancing), stylish underwear is the way to go in this modern age. Plaid, to-your-knees, loose-as-hell boxer shorts are dinosaurs of past and irrelevant to today’s wear. Form-fitting undies with quality design and construction are your smart choice for slim-straight, skinny, and super skinny fit jeans/pants. Stupid be the guy who wears boxer shorts with slims or skinnies. (But we’ll talk more on boxer shorts in part II). Boxer shorts will never really go out of fashion, in the foreseeable future, because they are convenient in other ways and forms, but undies like boxer briefs are now at the forefront appropriately so.
There are other great form-fitting undies for guys – the brief (no legs, just bum and package) and the trunk (with legs resting at the very top of your thighs), for example. You wanna go for great, name-brand, non-athletic jockstraps? Go for it! They’ve also been gaining traction for their liberal feel. But Abercrombie & Fitch Co. only produces boxer briefs – with legs resting below the top of your thighs, but generally lower than the trunk – for the time being. To our inspection, A&F inappropriately labeled what were really boxer briefs as “trunks” back in Spring 2012 (something they revised after we mentioned it on the blog). There are no “trunks” now. Though we should mention that some retailers do consider the “trunk” a type of boxer brief. Furthermore, there is no industry standard for the length of the legs on boxer briefs and trunks. But to put all confusion aside, think of it this way: the boxer brief is a hybrid of the boxer shorts and brief style...so a boxer brief should be form-fitting and with legs of reasonable length...a length which could come below the top of the thigh or to a longer length above the knee. As so...
Trunks are just with legs resting at the very top of the thighs. But again, there is no industry standard for lengths of both. Confusing as hell – and there should really be an industry standard established! – but hopefully you have a sense of how things should be. Got it?
So anyway, this Spring-Summer 2013, it’s all about never-before-seen, fresh, bright pop-out colors!
On inspection at an Abercrombie & Fitch canoe store, the line really stood out in display among the other surrounding merchandise. And some select waist bands with the embroidered name-brand in pop-out color...incredible...with enough imagination, on some of them, you’d think them as holographic waist bands! They’re that cool. That striking. The design, color choice, and lighting on display...just fantastic. Although we do have to give props to the 'Keene Valley' range for its bright-bold simplicity which makes it the noteworthy A&F undies statement of the season.
There’s nothing really new-new about the abercrombie kids collection of boxer briefs for Spring 2013, but we do recognize the 'allen mountain' rage for its cool correlation with the A&F 'Keene Valley' range.
With Hollister, dude, it’s all happenin’ at the 'Surfers Point' range! The bold stripe patterns with outstanding color game-play totally work to make this arguably among the top best HCo undies ranges.
The consensus? The 'Keene Valley' and 'Surfers Point' undies come hand-in-hand as the #Spring2013 winners! But you know we’re all inclusive. So take a look at our sample selection of each boxer briefs range...

Gilly Hicks Limited Selections Now on Abercrombie & Fitch and Hollister Online Stores...

Our German correspondent Sabrina first notified us of the Gilly Hicks "bralette" (in colors: navy, blue, turquoise, pink, and white) made available on de.eu.abercrombie.com, under the 'Tees & Tanks' category, for the German market...
That item was made available only in navy on the American sites soon enough and then with other color selections...
And the limited selection of Gilly Hicks Push 'Em Ups finally made its debut only on hollisterco.com by January 15...
Maybe we will see a limited selection also under the 'Bras & Undies' category of abercrombie.com soon?
Ironically, Gilly Hicks, despite the fact that it's advertised as "the Cheeky Cousin of Abercrombie & Fitch," has been considerably linked more so to Hollister visually and through promotions. The hot guys at GH events have been wearing HCo swim shorts (the vivid red ones!) and flip-flops; model Ashley Perich modeled looks for both brands (for more than a year!); the electronic video facades of footage from Bondi Beach are twins to those of Hollister and its Huntington Beach footage; and the joint Hollister and Gilly Hicks flagship on Regent Street became the literal representation of more obvious connections flowing between the both...even the now similarity between the consumer demographic of Hollister and Gilly Hicks. Hollister's online 'Bras & Undies' category gets the diverse Push Em Ups selection first? For a year-and-more, Gilly Hicks has been fading into more like "the Cheeky Cousin of Hollister Co"!
WE LOVE GILLY...however fickle her image may be. [Fingers crossed for a return to the original bold, sexy "Cheeky Cousin of A&F" attitude!] Never forget to share Gilly Hicks with your friends...and always talk about how fun it is to explore the Land of Down Undies...

Abercrombie & Fitch Womens Underwear...What's the Deal?

Abercrombie & Fitch did sell underwear for women beginning in 2000. Abercrombie kids also sold undies for girls (infamously so!), and RUEHL did sell lingerie for women, as well. Then work for Gilly Hicks began and the brands discontinued their womens underwear lines in the mid-2000s. Gilly Hicks was then introduced in 2008 with the purpose of now having a brand devoted to womens underwear in the A&F Family. And in 2012, the Company decided to try selling some womens undies in A&F and HCo stores. Does that not go against the purpose of having Gilly Hicks? Why would it do that? Why not instead further promote GH with GH underwear in A&F and HCo stores? Were Gilly Hicks a real person, you'd think she would be jealous and a little pissed off by this...and reasonably so! Without an explanation, it just doesn't make sense...whatever explanation there may be, it still wouldn't really make reason.
One reader of ours, William B., kindly shared with us this following image of the Abercrombie & Fitch womens underwear on sale inside the store at the Shops at La Cantera shopping center in San Antonio, Texas...
William mentioned that the undies placement may be for testing local markets....but ironically, as William also pointed out, La Cantera already has a Gilly Hicks store! And it doesn't make sense to test the markets for GH with A&F and HCo-branded undies...when it could appropriately be done with actual sample GH product. Who knows.
Obviously, the underwear was not a big seller as there are still hoards. They are going for US$3 a pop! Pretty cheap!
Fellow Abercrombie/Gilly Hicks Girl, and long-time The Sitch on Fitch reader, Hayleigh Tilton shared with the Editor-in-Chief that the Abercrombie & Fitch at the St. Johns Town Center shopping center in Jacksonville, Florida, also has some on sale at the moment. However, that store only has two buckets of undies. If you will remember, Hayleigh was the one that provided us with pics of Hollister-branded Bettys underwear in the Volusia Mall of Daytona Beach (FL) back in June 2012 (see post here). No word if some Hollister stores still carry some Bettys undies, though.
These A&F and HCo-branded womens underwear have never been sold online. Only instores and in select stores in the United Sates. Very curious. What do you think about this "little" odd affair? Our consensus: it lacks common sense...after all, what's Gilly Hicks for?

With details of stripes and checks and solid cool, the collections of boxers and boxer briefs play it bad-ass with a masculine punch! But let's clarify a few little things first. Boxers are boxers and everyone knows they are loose-fitting and in a shorts-style. Moving along, the A&F Family also offers boxer briefs which it sometimes labels as "trunks." Boxer briefs' legs extend to the top of your thighs, but are generally longer than the trunk fit which has its legs at the very top of your thighs. For its 1,000 Steps Beach line of boxer briefs, Hollister makes sweet use of navy, blue, and turquoise in broad or thin stripes. Honestly, the turquoise in broad stripes stands out the most...they have a look of cool as ice! Solid colors include navy and white, but the navy gets the vote for the hottest of the solid color boxer briefs! Seriously, though, with a cool ass waist band like that, HCo boxer briefs all make for a fine addition in any Dude's drawer!

In fact, growth in the menswear industry has outstripped growth in womenswear in the upscale market!
Also, now that slimmer fits in jeans are more in style, only briefs will do as underwear. Wearing boxers with jeans is a bad move since there will be folds inside the legs of your jeans because the boxers are just not ideal for slimmer fit jeans. Leave the boxers for the shorts.
