Comin' Up! Hollister Co. Mall of the Emirates, Dubai...

HOLLISTER IN THE
MALL OF THE EMIRATES
NOW OPEN!

DISCOVER MORE (HERE)

Hey Dudes and Bettys!

You might recall that earlier this year I, fellow contributor Cameron, wrote about Abercrombie & Fitch Co. signing a deal with Majid Al Futtaim Fashion to secure a contract to bring its brands to the United Arab Emirates. (See prior post). News came and went, and nothing much was said about it. But after more developments and some great recent pics from our Irish correspondent, Patrick, there's more to come to know about the first A&F Family brand in the Middle East...

Currently under construction, this special upcoming Pier is being set up inside Dubai's Mall of the Emirates – the region's exceptionally exclusive shopping resort destination. HCo at the Mall of the Emirates will be located in what was previously the old Shoe Citi unit, between Forever 21 and the Spanish chain, Massimo Dutti. The storefront will be two storeys, although there could only be one sales floor, as is the majority standard internationally (though with some exceptions).

Boasting outstanding fashion retail, entertainment, and dining, the Mall of the Emirates is the perfect place for such as an iconic western brand! It's literally a multiple-award winning mecca of utmost quality. The complex already houses brands such as Diesel, DKNY, Guess, Longchamp, Nine West, Tommy Hilfiger, Victoria's Secret, Zara, and Breitling watches just to name a few. The mall is 2.4 million square feet (about 220,000 square meters) and has a 14 screen cinema; a 500 seat theatre; and two adjoining 5-star hotels. And it is also linked to Ski Dubai, an indoor ski resort!

After his trip to Hong Kong (see his A&F Hong Kong pics; the rest coming soon!), Patrick dropped by Dubai and passed by to see HCo's spot with its advertising. Note that it is a pic from Back-to-School 2011 sans exposed bodies and abs...

What do you hope to see from A&F in terms of marketing and operations in the Middle East? What do you think of the location? Drop a comment below and I'll be sure to reply!

Stay FIERCE

Hollister Co. Parody in Grand Theft Auto's Newest Game...

Screenshot of parody Hollister in GTA 5.
Image used for illustrative purposes only.
We've all heard of the infamous Grand Theft Auto game series and their sometimes crude humor. Nonetheless, most people, including myself (new blogger Will!), still think it's funny and enjoyable. However, this time around Rockstar Games, the creators of the Grand Theft Auto game series, have taken things to a whole new level of detail by including parodies of America's most famous brands. Included is a parody of Hollister Co. which they have renamed "Swallow Co."

The game itself features its own "internet" that allows you to browse through Swallow Co.'s website where an extremely detailed description of the company is included. That being said, it is evident that the creators of the game wanted to mock the brand's attention towards the American youth by highlighting Hollister's many unorthodox marketing techniques, including Hollister's shirt-less models and the spritz that's sprayed throughout the store. Other mockeries include Hollister's oversized logos on clothing and emphasis on dates that have passed long ago.

Other pages include the Store Locator which asks you to "follow your nose" to find a store and the "Meet Swallow Boy" and "Meet Swallow Girl" page that includes personalized descriptions of two Swallow employees and their teenage lives. Other brands, like American Apparel were also mocked crudely in Rockstar's newest game.

Overall, fans of Abercrombie & Fitch and its off-shoot brands shouldn't be offended by Rockstar's parody, but rather proud that Hollister has become a brand relative enough that it is thought of when creating these types of games. Yes, the game pointed out some of Hollister's weak spots as a brand, but by doing so it shines a light on the importance and influence Hollister Co. has had on the American public in the last decade.

Marcus in America! | #ABERCROMBIEHOT Fall Looks...

Ahoy Mateys! Yes, it's "Talk like pirate day." And I haven't posted in a while because I'm extremely lazy, right? No of course not! College and the gym (as you'll see) take up quite a bit of my time. Anyway, without further ado...

Fall is my favorite season. I live in the South (in the US), and many of the seasons just kind of run together. Oh, and winter is mild. Anyway, I have two nice fall looks for your consideration. Now I'm not saying you have to copy them, but imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!

#CAMPUSJOCK

I must preface this look description with the fact that I really love A&F's line of "hoodie tees." They're perfect for fall in temperate climates. First, throw on some distressed, dark rinse skinny jeans. Then, add a tee with pop color graphics. A lightweight hoodie may be a nice layer over the tee. Finally, slip on some matching rubber treds for a sporty, casual look. ...Have a listen to your favorite awesome song on iPod as you head in to class!

#BRINGBACKTHE90s

Now I know what you're thinking, "No, Marcus! Tying things around your waist isn't cool at all!" Well I think this look is definitely an exception. It's understated. We have a basic, crew neck t-shirt over slightly distressed/repaired skinny jeans. The plaid shirt around the waist adds a bit of attitude, in my opinion. Plus I think this look is perfect for, say, volleyball on the beach, which is why I cuffed the jeans and went barefoot.

Well those were my two select Fall (Autumn) looks! Hopefully you liked them and will keep them in mind when you get dressed! If you have any comments/constructive criticism, feel free to comment below (bonus points if you talk like a pirate).

Smooth sailin', me hearties!

Abercrombie & Fitch Westfield World Trade Center, New York City!

Westfield World Trade Center artistic visual.  |  (image source)
A resplendent radiant glow rises from the World Trade Center site, as now part of the magnificent Manhattan skyline, as proud representative of what the USA stands for... Freedom. Hope. Bravery. King of this brilliance is the One World Trade Center tower as now the tallest structure in New York City. The building is such a dynamic statement and is already one of the most beautiful skyscrapers in the world. If you are near to New York, you are thoroughly advised to go see it for yourself as it simply is breathtaking. And, of course, there are the beautiful, tranquil pools of water at the footprints of the original WTC Twin Towers. Everything is completely the result of resilient rebuilding in memory of the tragedy of 9/11. #NEVERFORGET

Along with many other developments, the Australian retail development Westfield Group has purchased a large amount of real estate in plans of realization for an all new shopping center on-site. This retail project is to be the modern successor to the Mall of the World Trade Center which was also destroyed in the 2001 attack. The "Westfield World Trade Center" will be the name of what is to bring again the biggest mall in Manhattan.

"The retail space currently includes approximately 365,000 square feet of leasable space spread across multiple levels including the new World Trade Center Transportation Hub, with concourses that will connect throughout all portions of the site. It will have a major street level presence along Church Street, Cortland Way and Dey Street and above grade in Tower 3 and Tower 4. An additional 90,000 square feet of retail space will be added when Tower 2 is developed in the future." [source]

Westfield has already lined up retailers for 90% of the mall which is anticipated to open in 2015. There will be 150 iconic global brands planned including Abercrombie & Fitch, Apple, & Victoria's Secret.

Although neither Abercrombie or Westfield have confirmed any details, it is understood that they are very close to securing a prime location for the famous brand. Hopefully Abercrombie will pull-out something amazing out of the bag for this store as it will come to be one of their most prominent and iconic locations! A&F will also be taking up retail space along with J. Lindberg, Tony Burch, Michael Kors, Swatch and many other international glamorous brands.

But having a store in this future landmark mall - much understandably! - isn't cheap. Leasing figures are between the US$500-$600 per square foot range. Westfield itself has paid $612.5 million to the Port Authority, the part-owners of the World Trade Centre site, for the development of its project.

See Westfield's video, (here).

Below are some of the visual CGIs that the Westfield Group has released of the soon-to-be bustling, iconic mall at the center of the world's fashion capital...

What do you think of the mall? What do you expect to see from Abercrombie? Will there be a Hollister along with an A&F? Hopefully so! Drop a comment below and I'll be sure to reply!

Abercrombie & Fitch Magazine Fall 2004: The Conclusion...

PRESENTER
C.E.R.

FROM
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

FEATURING
A&F MAGAZINE, FALL 2004

The words of an enraptured writer can be as moving, in the depth of heart, as the overwhelming energy of mythic waters in tempest. Compelled by an unprecedented emotion over a subject of affection, he succumbs to the composition of an orthography of passion in the hopes of capturing what once brought to him euphoria ephemeral. Though, rather stoic, fate and time perform their dance, and what once brought us joy then fades away...

Thus, above, is how I feel over my Summer 2013 and all it came to be for me in heart; and I bring to you this conclusion, on the premier issue of the A&F Magazine Fall 2004, coinciding in sentiment with the end of a personally, forever time-memorable period now fading Into the Past. I'll never for get my Summer 2013. In the words of the great English Romanticism poet, William Wordsworth, as quoted on the back cover...

“THOUGH NOTHING CAN BRING BACK
THE HOUR OF SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS,
OF GLORY IN THE FLOWERS; WE GRIEVE NOT,
RATHER FIND STRENGTH IN
WHAT REMAINS BEHIND.”

Incidentally, this also has come to be, to my surprise, the 9th Tales of Vintage post – and nine is my ultimate number. This year's been too filled with incidences and coincidences and they never stop happening wherever randomly. Though, anyway, here's my photography of the closing finale to this wonderful collectible A&F Magazine...

#VINTAGE
#POETICROMANTICISM

“IT’S SO MATERIAL, CRIMINAL,
WHAT WE PUT UP ON A PEDESTAL [...]
SUMMER DAYS WILL FADE AWAY AND
PASS US BY, BUT WE’LL SURVIVE
CUZ WE GOT LOVE.”
